Courtney McCaskill A Wallflower Never Surrenders (Historical Romance)

Read in 2024

This is book 19 of 53 in a series by multiple authors called Revenge of the Wallflowers I have not read any of the previous books in this series and this is a stand alone that I was able to follow without reading any of the prior books.

Loved this book couldn't put it down!  This is a new to me author I happened to see this book when it was advertised on a reading group I'm a member of on Facebook.

Eleanor is the oldest of 4 girls their mother died when they were all very young and their father is a “naturalist” who keeps going off on wild goose chases and spending any money they have on these trips without a care for what happens to any of his daughters. Eleanor is used to taking care of herself and her sisters on basically nothing but they have always had a home… until their father’s latest planned trip around the world where he sells their mother’s home to fund luxury accommodations and when asked where they will live his response is that Eleanor will figure it out… oh and the home is already sold and they have to move out right now. Eleanor is resourceful and writes to everyone she knows to see if there is any work and/or lodgings available by doing this she receives an invitation to a house party with the Countess of Milthorpe it's only for 2 weeks but it will at least give some extra time to figure out what to do next.

The Duke of Norwood is present he is looking for a bride but also looking out for his younger brother (Felix) who he has been responsible for since their parents died when he was a young teenager. Jasper (the Duke) worries that his younger brother is too trusting and too easy for others to take advantage of his kindness. Pippa (the youngest sister) catches the eye of Felix after arriving to the house party as they are both kind hearted animal lovers they form an immediate connection.

Seeing the "Weatherby Wallflowers" as they have been named by society after an incident with one of the middle sisters and knowing that they are not well off the Duke worries his brother is being taken advantage of again and begins work on trying to prevent this match. Eleanor initially going to the house party and hoping any of them could find a husband and being open to "all" options even someone old enough to be their grandfather sees that her youngest sister could be making a true love match and wants to help push Felix and Pippa together.

The Duke and Eleanor are now working against each other on this potential match and tempers and sparks fly... and frequently. Jasper went to this house party looking for a possible wife with a "proper" back ground, beautiful and demure but just maybe he doesn't want that at all perhaps he needs someone who isn't afraid of him and will put him in his place when needed and someone who can be his true partner in life someone who cares about him as a person not as being a powerful and rich Duke... someone who will help him carry his mastiff through the woods if needed.

Quick read with some spice does leave some things unanswered so hoping that they will be revealed in the bonus epilogue or one of the future books. I did order the next book!

Have you read anything by this author?
