Book Blurb:

Dart Rivers is my ex-husband, or so I thought.

Three years ago, he drove out of our small town to chase racing dreams, leaving me and my broken heart in his rearview mirror.

Couple goals and shattered promises brought feelings of failure on both our parts.

Then one night, a special delivery is left on my back step. A stork-drop of sorts. (Think Baby Boom). At first, I believe there must be a mistake, but when the sweet bundle swaddled in pink gazes at me, I’ll do anything to keep her.

Enter Dart Rivers again.

An accident on the track leads to him sneaking into the house, crashing on my couch, and announcing he’s still mine.

Close proximity provides honest conversations, friendly couch time, and familiar attractions. With silver speckled in his hair, Dart is still the best-looking man I’ve ever seen, making my belly flutter and my heart beat again.

But can I trust that fragile organ? Can I give my ex-not-ex-husband a second chance? Can I believe Dart’s new promises?

Rogue River series is a spin-off from the Sterling Falls series, specifically Sterling Touch, giving listeners small-town romances with characters over 40.

Thoughts:

Trinity and Dart were once madly in love... now Trinity is just mad since Dart tired of his construction job left her 3 years ago to start a new career as a NASCAR racer in Florida while she stayed in their small home town.  Trinity continues her life as usual going to work as a Nurse (NICU) and even if her attempts at moving on from Dart were a flop she has her family and a great group of friends that she meets with regularly for book club meetings her life is stable at this point and she doesn't forsee anything changing in the near future...

Until everything changes when a baby gets dropped off at her door from one of her former patients who doesn't have the means or support to take care of an infant and wants her to go to a good home... and now what is going on... Dart is back in her home on her couch wanting to stay... he left her and she doesn't think it's a great idea for him to come anywhere near her at this point they are exes for a reason they have been divorced for years now!

Only Dart never signed the papers they are still married and even though he's upset that she has moved on he wants to prove that he has changed and wants to come back for good this time.  Trinity gives in to allow Dart to stay in her home once she receives a visit from DCF basically telling her that there is a better chance for her adoption case for married couples vs. trying to adopt as a single parent.  Naturally the longer they are staying together in close quarters this stirs up old flames that never really went away and now things are red hot.

I loved Trinity and Dart's friend group and Trinity's family especially her mother who was trying to help her get into the right mind set to possibly take Dart back.  I appreciated that Trinity didn't just let Dart walk back into her life like nothing happened she really made him work for his right to be apart of her and the baby's life.

This was a sweet second chance, small town romance that was emotional throughout as they rediscover why they fell in love in the first place and re-visit their past to see that maybe they both did things wrong which led to their eventual split.  This deals with infertility (in the past) and feelings on both sides of self doubt.  As their time back together goes on they find that maybe their feelings for each other arn't that far behind them... but can they trust their hearts again and give a real second chance?  Is Dart here to stay or does he have one foot out the door back to his big racing career?

I enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to more in the series!

Thank you to the author and Hambright PR for this ARC copy & ALC The narrators did a great job bringing these characters to life.
