I usually don't go for horror reads but I saw a review for this and needed it for my personal states challenge.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I went into this other than super creepy stuff to happen 👻
This is a short book but the story flowed well even with the multiple POV. Marissa is going on a trip with her friends while she's not all that close with some of these people they do enjoy spending time together and go on a yearly trip either together or with their families as well.
This year is not a full family year so they plan a trip to... Iowa what?... ok so there must be something to do there right? The house looks nice too.
Prior to leaving for their trip Brittany (a friend who was invited but said she didn't want to go) stated she had bad vibes about the trip and that Marissa shouldn't go either... but they put a deposit together so she's going.
Once this trip gets started we can see that there is a bunch of simmering tension and drama with this friend group... are they sure that being together is a good idea?
The house... yea not what they thought they were getting, it's not a house on the lake it's a place in the middle of nowhere with corn fields surrounding... if that isn't bad enough they received a creepy warning from a woman at a run down gas station and the cheerful woman who owns the home gives them just enough of a warning about an unknown "Alice" stating when she appears don't look at her... That's going to be a no from me, I'll walk back to town!
This is a short story but the author does a great job keeping the creepy vibes and tension that something bad could happen at any moment flowing throughout this story.
When secrets are revealed and Alice makes herself known and a big storm comes is anyone safe?
Had me hooked from beginning to end, I've watched enough of these kinds of movies to know they were in a bad situation and kept wanting to shout at them to leave immediately and let the lady keep her deposit!
