While I don't normally read horror type stuff I was intrigued by the premise of the creepy urban legend "bloody Mary" and what this author could pull off in a short story.
This book is divided into two short stories the first being about Shye she is at work, a performer we the reader get a glimpse of the life she knows now as she is getting ready for her next performance and sitting in front of the only mirror she can look at.
Shye has a fear of mirrors after having a sleepover with her friend Rose as a kid where her friend brings up the game we all know of as Bloody Mary... while there are different versions of it the main point that seems to be the same is that you go into a room with a mirror when it's dark say the name 3 times and then the creepy supernatural being is supposed to appear in the mirror.
In this story Shye and her friend had a terrifying encounter with the real Bloody Mary and she has been waiting for the chance for a second encounter.
The first story was short but still able to get across the creepiness and left me as the reader wanting to find out what happened next with Shye's story. I would have also liked to find out what happened to Rose.
The second story reads like a diary and gave me kind of an HP Lovecraft kind of vibe with something creepy in the basement leading the nuns to tell all the orphans they can't go to the basement, also what is in the forest?
Both stories had me wanting to read more, if you enjoy horror stories you will enjoy these short stories.
*short stories *horror *Bloody Mary *cliffhanger
