Delilah (FMC) is brilliant, she is a bit of a loner and while she has some friends she keeps them at a safe distance not letting down her walls for anyone, attachment in her world leads to disappointment just look at the relationship she has with her mom she calls when she needs money they barely see each other (even for holidays)... her mom really is a piece of work and makes you understand why she doesn't trust anyone easily.
When Delilah ends up in a competition that she needs to win it's usually a solo project which suits her just fine... only this year it isn't she needs to find a partner and with her lack of social skills and people pairing up before she can even ask she begins to feel defeated before she even starts... until she is forced to team up with Troy Hawkins her nemesis from summer camp who took her glory after she spent hours fixing the air conditioner and saved the day... yes she's still salty about this... how can she work with him he's the campus party boy who flashes a smile and has girls fawning all over him will he even pull his weight in this project?
Troy while he has been known for his partying ways and hooking up with a different girl every other day he also is caring/kind, funny, smart, he's a good listener and yes he likes to spend a lot of time at the gym but even though people think he gets things handed to him on a golden platter he works hard and he has earned the right to be in the competition he can make it work with Delilah even if she is a grump and they have fiery interactions it could also lead to heated discussions over their project that's what they are going to need to win this.
Troy is intrigued by Delilah she sees through his act of being the always on always charming party boy she sees the real him and he finds that he can relax around her he doesn't always have to be on all the time she's ok with him being himself and she's even beginning to let down her walls for him he knows how hard that is for her to do and he's honored that she's letting him in even if it's just a little bit, he can wait she's worth it.
Our couple goes through ups and downs in this emotional story where sometimes taking a chance and opening up for the right person is not just worth it... it's everything!
I loved the interactions with the side characters from the previous stories and loved how accepting Troy's sister and mom were of Delilah.
I did struggle through some of the book with the miscommunication/no communication that was going on the super slow burn happening led to it feeling like they just got together when they were "not" together again for the 3rd act break up.
This is the first book I've read in this series but it won't be my last. I really loved how the characters while initially sparking over their differences their relationship turned towards different sparks towards the end of the book while working together on their project they grew closer together broke down each other's walls this book gives you all the feels with wanting them to find their happy ending.

I do wish that Delilah would have had an interaction with her mom telling her that she was no longer going to let her treat her as a cash day loan that she never paid back. At least call her to ask her about other things on a regular basis lady!
