Book Blurb:

Blythe Olsen fell to her death on Halloween night, 1975. Her death was ruled a suicide—but some secrets refuse to stay buried.

Fifty years later, Wren Holloway transfers to Ravenshore Academy to be closer to her dying grandmother, stepping into a world of ivy-covered halls, old-money families, and whispered legends.

Kit Thorne is everything Wren shouldn’t get close to: brilliant, detached, and bound by a legacy he longs to escape. Yet there’s something magnetic about him she can’t resist—something dangerous, yet achingly human.

As Wren and Kit are drawn together, the shadows of Blythe’s death begin to resurface. Forbidden clubs, secret societies, and family secrets that test the boundaries between trust and obsession.

In a place where every corner hides a lie, can Wren and Kit navigate the darkness without losing each other—or themselves?

Thoughts:

This story begins in the past when Blythe Olsen (a student) at Ravenshore College is found dead, her death is ruled a suicide but so many questions surround the situation many believe that there was a cover up of what really happened and the Police didn't do enough to actually investigate the case, friends and family of Blythe know she would never take her own life... so what really happened that night?

Unfortunately the mystery will be unsolved for the next 50 years, not only that but every 3 years after Blythe passed away a staff member or student of the college dies, it's like clockwork what is going on in this small town?

In present day Wren Holloway transfers from the west coast to be closer to her grandmother who is in poor health.  Wren is also a legacy and has been assigned to the newly reopen tower dorm room... the same one that Blythe lived in when she went to the school... this is the first time anyone has lived in her room since they closed it off after the incident.

There are ghost stories that people see Blythe's ghost walking the halls... only ghosts arn't real, right?

Wren is intelligent and fierce she is strong willed and once she begins seeing some things about the past that lead her to believe that something shady happened with Blythe's death and she is going to get to the bottom of it, Wren has started having dreams of Blythe and feels that Blythe may be asking her for help as strange as that seems and she wants to help her.

Wren meets some new friends along the way, spends time with her spunky, no nonsence grandmother and gets to know handsome Kit Thorne (MMC) who everyone initially tells her to stay away with his family is rich he is a legacy and his family runs the college also his friend circle is small... he doesn't let new people in, but he is just as captivated by Wren as she is by him, she can't help but want to be in his orbit.

This is a slow burn, it is sweet to see Kit fall completely for Wren, he finds the courage to stand up for not only himself but for Wren as well and she is able to enlist his help with searching for clues as they spend more time together.

Kit's father is old school wealth and privilege he wants to continue to be just as powerful as he's always been and he likes to lord that over Kit and the rest of the town... his dad is also wanting him to move forward with an arranged marriage he doesn't want/didn't ask to be in... what is this 1800's England?

I loved Wren and her Grandmother's relationship her grandma is funny, protective and fierce, she's more than willing to go up against more powerful people and she lets everyone know exactly what she thinks!

Only problem is the closer Kit and Wren get to the truth the closer danger gets to them... someone doesn't want the truth coming out and will do anything to keep things buried.

As the story progressed there were some things that were predictable for me, but over all this was an enjoyable read that kept me turning pages.

If you are looking for a good mystery for spooky season this one has all the elements you want! The darker acadamia setting, secret societies, old family secrets, the past mixing with the present for the truth to finally come to the light, a bit of the paranormal, and a slow burn & forbidden love worth the wait.

Have you read this one?  What did you think?
